SUMMARY OF CAMPS
Rock Camp attendees will begin by learning "cover songs" by other artists, such as Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. By studying how these songs are put together, campers will then collaborate to write and perform their own songs.
Jazz Camp attendees will begin by learning "standards," tunes that every jazz player needs to be familiar with. By analyzing the way melody, harmony and rhythm interact within the standards, campers will compose and perform their own songs.
A note to campers:
Your experience at Matt Vooris Music Camps will be fun and educational. You will be placed in a band with kids your own age and skill level. You will make music all week long. Some of the things you'll learn will include writing songs, how to make your band sound better, how to play a solo and what to do during a concert.
A note to parents:
Your child's experience at Matt Vooris Music Camps will be fun and educational. After being paired with campers of similar age and skill level, bands will be formed and assigned to an instructor. Each instructor will coach the band in preparation for the concert on Friday night. Performance is the main focus of these Music Camps. Under that wide umbrella, topics that will be introduced and reinforced include: music theory, ensemble playing, promoting a performance, how to get through a concert, and creativity and composition.
